Shep Patterson

Business Development Manager

Shep Patterson joined New Energy Risk as business development manager in June 2021. He is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and enabling new partnership opportunities for NER.

Prior to his current position, Shep worked as an automotive engineer and product planner at Nissan, where he analyzed potential markets and conducted quality analysis for a rapidly growing line of vehicle service parts. Prior to that, he was a technology consultant at Capgemini, where he developed ERP-integrated warehouse management software solutions for a variety of clients.

Most recently, Shep’s passion for the transportation industry combined with his awareness of its significant contribution to carbon emissions led him to the DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) where he a conducted research on how to reduce carbon emissions from aviation. The report and technoeconomic model that he and the team generated is currently being used to define ARPA-E funded project teams’ objectives as they work to enable zero-carbon aviation.

Shep received his MBA in Business Analytics with a concentration in Finance from Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business from Rice University.

Outside of the workplace, Shep enjoys the challenge of hands-on projects such as rebuilding bikes and cars or finding new applications for his Arduino. He is also an active cyclist, runner, and skier, as well as a swim coach for the Special Olympics.
